Lesley Mattock
Lesley began
working for the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 1996. She transferred
from the Respiratory Function Unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital to
the Pulmonary Function Unit at the Northern General Hospital in 2000.
She graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Biomedical Science from Sheffield
Hallam University in 2001.
She is a member of The
Association for Respiratory Physiologists and Technologists (ARTP) and
The British Sleep Society (BTS) and a registered member of The
Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP).
Lesley currently works as a Chief
Respiratory Clinical Physiologist based in the Pulmonary Function Unit (PFU).
Her main role involves performing diagnostic sleep studies including
Overnight Pulse Oximetry and Limited Polysomnography. She is responsible
for initiating Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy on
patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Once established on CPAP,
patients are seen regularly in PFU to ensure compliance with treatment.
Lesley also provides
consultation and advice to sleep disorder patients during a physiologist
led outpatient clinic and amends or instigates treatment as required.
As a chief physiologist, Lesley is
highly skilled in performing all the specialist tests performed within
the department and also has an active role in teaching the ARTP/BTS
Spirometry Foundation Course to GP’s, physiotherapists, practice nurses
and occupational health nurses. She also lectures medical students on
the interpretation of respiratory tests.
