Dr David Kiely
David is a Consultant Physician in
Respiratory and General Medicine and an Honorary Senior Lecturer with a
sub-speciality interest in Pulmonary Vascular Disease and leads a
nationally designated Pulmonary Hypertension Centre.
He graduated from the University of
Edinburgh and completed a period of post-graduate research investigating
the cardiopulmonary interactions of hypoxia and hypercapnia and the role
of vasoactive mediators in the pulmonary circulation. He completed his
post-graduate training in Cambridge before moving to Sheffield in 2001.
His clinical interests include pulmonary
hypertension and associated multisystem diseases. In addition to
respiratory clinics he has specialist clinics in pulmonary vascular and
a respiratory / connective tissue disease.
David has helped develop screening
protocols for pulmonary hypertension and has contributed to national
guidelines on the management of pulmonary hypertension. He has recently
worked with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
developing guidelines for the management of pulmonary hypertension in
pregnancy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians
and a member of the UK Scleroderma Group. He has participated in
several international multi-centre studies evaluating the efficacy of
new therapies for pulmonary hypertension and is currently involved in
research examining the non-invasive assessment of pulmonary vascular
disease and the role of exercise programmes in pulmonary hypertension. |
