Staff from the Respiratory
Function Unit work in collaboration with all sections of the Sheffield
Thoracic Institute and other departments. Recent projects include
assessment of exposure to flour dust in bakeries; a multicentre health
technology assessment of a new nebuliser; in conjunction with the
anaesthetic department an investigation of the utility of the shuttle
walking test as a predictor of post-operative morbidity/mortality in
gastro-oesophageal surgery; in conjuction Radiotherapy department
investigation of the utility of MRI imaging with polarised helium.
We are one of 6 UK
laboratories involved in a large multinational trial of inhaled insulin.
