Welcome to the
Sheffield Thoracic Institute Website
The Sheffield
Thoracic Institute is a new structure within the Sheffield
Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that aims to develop and
deliver top quality services for patients with all types of lung
disease, with a particular focus on teaching, training and
research. We believe that we can improve patient care through
joint working, common pathways, speciality focus and cross-city
uniformity.
The Sheffield Thoracic Institute will
initially be a virtual organisation working across directorate
boundaries, with the longer term aim of having an autonomous
budget and management structure. A Management Board will meet
six monthly and advise on the strategic direction of the
Institute.
The Sheffield Thoracic Institute
is made up of 10 subspecialty teams - asthma, chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis,
interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, occupational lung
disease, pleural disease, pulmonary hypertension,
sleep/non-invasive ventilation, and tuberculosis. Each of these
groups has a clinical lead who is responsible for service
development/improvement, teaching, research and audit.
